My History with the Harp
After taking up the harp in 1993, my life became centered around harps and harp music for many years. Playing the harp (after earning degrees in music education and clarinet performance) completely changed the course of my life, both personally and professionally.
My first harp teacher was Roxanne Ziegler in Rochester, New York. She took me seriously as an adult beginner and gave me a strong foundation over three years of study. She later encouraged me to continue my pedal harp studies with Grace Wong of the Rochester Philharmonic, with whom I studied formally for two additional years.
During that time, I practiced three or more hours a day and developed a deep love for the harp that continues to shape my composing and arranging today.
Other Instruments
Although this site focuses entirely on harp music, I play (or have played) every instrument I write for, to varying degrees. For me, writing music is an extension of playing, which is why I am so careful about playability, and your playing enjoyment.
If you want to check out my “non harp” music and arrangements, please visit blevinsmusic.com. You will find music for piano, clarinet, flute, Native American-style flute, tin whistle, recorder, violin, viola, cello, finger-style ukulele and baritone ukulele, mandolin and trombone, in dozens of solo and ensemble combinations.
I hold degrees in music education and clarinet performance from Heidelberg College (now Heidelberg University.)
About Me
I am a lover of nature, animals, and the great outdoors. Nature photography is a hobby I enjoy, and at home I share my life with my husband, our rescued cat, Heather, and a leopard gecko named Mango.
I ran Blevins Harps for about 17 years with my husband, Dwight, an incredible harp designer. We sold the company in 2018, and Blevins Harps are still prized and played around the world. Today, you’ll usually find me in my studio, working on music projects. Please feel free to contact me anytime — I always enjoy hearing from fellow harpists and music lovers.
